What is a 2D Growth Scan?

A 2D Growth Scan is an ultrasound done to monitor your baby’s growth and development during pregnancy. It can be performed anytime between 4 to 40 weeks of gestation.

During this scan, the sonographer will measure your baby’s head, abdomen, and thigh bone. These measurements help estimate your baby’s weight and assess whether their growth matches their gestational age. It helps to identify issues like restricted growth or a baby that’s larger than expected.

This scan also allows basic observation of your baby’s development and overall condition inside the womb. It is a safe, painless procedure and provides valuable insight into the health of your pregnancy.

Even if there are no signs of complications, this scan is commonly recommended to make sure everything is progressing well.

Frequently Asked Questions:

[Q] Do I need to prepare full bladder before scan?

[A] It depends on your pregnancy week. If your pregnancy week is less than 10, we highly recommend to have a full bladder before coming for the scan.

[Q] How long does a 2D scan take?
[A] A 2D scan usually takes around 5 to 10 minutes, depending on the situation and the baby’s or mother’s cooperation during the scan.

[Q] If the pregnancy is 5 weeks, can the baby’s heartbeat be seen?
[A] At around 5 weeks, the baby’s heart has usually started to beat, but it may not always be visible on an ultrasound yet. Detection at this stage can be difficult because the embryo is still very small. In some cases, a very early heartbeat (flicker) may be seen using a more sensitive scan, but it is not guaranteed. Most of the time, the heartbeat can be seen more clearly from around 6 to 7 weeks of pregnancy.

[Q] What is the difference between 2D, 3D, 4D, 5D, and 6D ultrasound in pregnancy?
[A] The main difference between 2D, 3D, 4D, 5D, and 6D ultrasound lies in the level of detail and imaging technology used to view your baby. What is Anatomy Scan?

The anatomy scan ultrasound, also known as the mid-pregnancy or level 2 ultrasound, is a detailed examination performed around the 18th to 22nd week of pregnancy. This scan assesses fetal growth, development, and anatomy to ensure that the baby is developing normally. It involves a thorough check of major organs, including the brain, heart, spine, kidneys, and limbs, to detect any structural abnormalities. The ultrasound also evaluates the position of the placenta, amniotic fluid levels, and the baby's overall well-being.

During the scan, the sonographer will capture images that can sometimes reveal the baby’s sex if the parents wish to know. An anatomy scan ultrasound is a routine and non-invasive procedure, providing essential insights into the pregnancy’s progress and helping healthcare providers make any necessary recommendations for care.

Frequently Asked Questions:

[Q] What is an anatomy scan?
[A] An anatomy scan is a detailed ultrasound that looks closely at your baby’s development in the womb. Anatomy scan checks important parts of your baby’s body—like the brain, heart, spine, kidneys, and limbs. This scan also looks at your placenta, amniotic fluid, and how your baby is growing overall. It’s a reassuring way to make sure everything is going well, and a special moment to see your baby in action before they arrive! For more details https://sono-ultrasound.com/anatomy-scan-services/

[Q] What information does the anatomy scan provide?
[A] The anatomy scan is an important and exciting part of your pregnancy journey! It usually takes place around 18–29 weeks and provides a detailed look at your baby's development. This scan checks your baby’s overall growth and examines the structure of major organs, such as the heart, brain, kidneys, and spine. It also helps to detect any potential abnormalities or concerns early on, so you can have peace of mind knowing that your baby is growing healthy and strong.

[Q] Can I still proceed with an anatomy screening if I have a higher BMI?
[A] Yes, you can proceed with an anatomy screening. However, please note that image clarity may be slightly affected due to higher BMI, which can make the scan a bit more challenging. The scan can still be completed as usual.

[Q] Is anatomy screening the same as a detailed scan?
[A] Anatomy screening and detailed scan are not the same. Anatomy screening is a basic check to view the baby’s structure and development, while a detailed scan is a more in-depth assessment performed by a specialist doctor (MFM/O&G).

What is 5D scan?

A 5D growth scan is an advanced prenatal ultrasound that gives highly detailed, high-definition images of the baby inside the womb. Unlike traditional 2D scans, which provide flat, black-and-white images, or 3D/4D scans, which show three-dimensional images and real-time movement, 5D scans enhance these features with even clearer and more realistic visuals.

This scan is typically performed in the third trimester, around 28 to 32 weeks of pregnancy, to check for any potential growth issues or abnormalities. It is non-invasive and uses sound waves like other ultrasound scans, making it safe for both mother and baby.
